Millie Bobby Brown is back in the spotlight with a new Netflix film, Electric State, but the actress is also making news for taking aim at commenters who have criticized her recent red carpet appearances.
In a new interview with the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 21-year-old admits the scrutiny does affect her, as much as she tries to brush it off. “I really would wish that no one ever had to go through that kind of scrutiny because it changes the kind of person you are,” she says. “You see the bad in everyone, you don’t see the good. You’re like, ‘What are your intentions, what are you going to say about me?’”
Brown stresses that her changing looks are just a natural part of growing up, adding that “I’m 21; it’s been 10 years [since I started acting]. She grows. My face, like, grew. What do you want me to do about that?”
Brown’s clapbacks have renewed attention on her beauty and lifestyle brand, “florence by mills,” which the actress launched in 2019. Available on sites like Amazon and its own e-commerce site, the brand started with skincare and makeup, but has since expanded to include fragrances, apparel and accessories. The name of the brand was derived from the name of Brown’s great-grandmother, Florence, and the actress’ familial nickname, “Mills.”
As Brown continues to deal with online trolls, fans have come to her defense, noting that comments about her appearance were what inspired her to start florence by mills in the first place. “I wanted to create something for me and my generation, my friends and peers; a brand that could reflect us and our self-expression and still be good for you,” Brown said in a launch email for the brand. “Being young in general is so tough, so creating a place to support everyone on their beauty journey was important to me.”
As the brand notes, “florence by mills sets out to redefine beauty with a Gen Z-focused line founded on the belief that true beauty comes from loving and embracing yourself.”
