You can always bet on Wegz to deliver love songs that hit somewhere real. The R&B superstar made his name writing some of the most relevant and deeply felt love and heartbreak songs of late, and today, he’s back with another gut-wrencher titled “El Ayah.”
“El Ayah,” which can be translated into English in several ways, including “the miracle,” tells a story of love, but a troubled one that never turns into the miracle it initially promises.
It traces the early stages of infatuation, the process of becoming emotionally attached to someone, only for that person to gradually retreat from the affair. What follows is a cycle of emotional ambiguity, mixed signals, and push-and-pull dynamics that keeps the emotional torment going rather than offering a clear-cut ending.
While the lyrics carry much of the track’s weight, Hussein Gamal’s production gives them a shoulder to lean on. Built from looped, fresh claps and gentle harmonies reverberating subtly in the background, the song summons the atmosphere of folkloric music sessions with its cyclicality, while Wegz plays the role of the singer at the center of the majlis.
